Illinois Environmental Council Seeks EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Be an Illinois Environmental Leader
October 27, 2008
We are looking for a dynamic new Executive Director who can lead the Illinois Environmental Council’s work as the eyes, ears and voice of the environmental community in Springfield.

This exciting opportunity to take the helm of Illinois’ premier environmental coalition presents the right candidate the opportunity to become a leader in the state’s environmental movement. The Illinois Environmental Council (IEC) has been at the forefront of the key environmental campaigns in Springfield over the past three decades and continues to be a key voice in critical policy debates such as climate change, open space preservation, and reducing pollution and toxics. The right candidate can continue and expand this legacy.

About IEC

The IEC - consisting of the Illinois Environmental Council and the Illinois Environmental Council Education Fund - is the only organization in Illinois focused solely on a broad range of environmental issues across the state. The Illinois Environmental Council represents over 50 groups from around the state on legislation and policies by lobbying and organizing statewide support. Through the IEC Education Fund, the IEC analyzes and communicates news from state government to the state's environmental community, and acts as a convener for the diverse groups that comprise the Illinois environmental community.

Founded more than 30 years ago by a group of dedicated grassroots environmentalists, the IEC remains a steadfast force in Springfield and throughout Illinois, fighting to limit pollution and protect the state's natural heritage.

The IEC is dedicated to addressing environmental legislative and administrative issues that affect the State of Illinois including:

• Global warming and clean cars - promoting energy efficiency, renewable energy, fuel efficiency.
• Land, water, and wildlife resources - habitat protection, greenways and trails, farmland preservation, safeguards for lakes and streams, biodiversity, endangered species.
• Pollution prevention - waste reduction, recycling, reduced use of toxics, clean air, energy conservation, water quality, budget issues.

IEC has a budget of approximately $500,000 and a staff of six, split between Chicago and Springfield offices. IEC is fiscally sound, recently completing a record-breaking year of fundraising.
