Stephanie Blumenthal

Policy Manager, Climate

Stephanie Blumenthal joined the Illinois Environmental Council as Climate Policy Manager in spring 2024. In this position, she serves as the campaign coordinator for the Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition’s (ICJC) building decarbonization work. Through this role she organizes and facilitates coalition meetings, works with sub groups on engaging the legislature, municipal governments, grassroots organizations, and the Illinois Commerce Commission to ensure our state can pass nation-leading legislation to decarbonize our buildings sector. In the ICJC she also assists with Chicago-focused transit and transportation related work.

Before coming to IEC, Stephanie worked in the Wisconsin State Capitol. There, she focused on constituent relations and policy creation for the State Assembly after working for the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Stephanie’s experience in state government informs her understanding that elected officials, and the policies they introduce, must adequately represent the needs of their communities.

Stephanie graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with dual bachelor’s degrees in political science and environmental studies and certificates in Chicano/Latino studies and history. Outside of work, you’ll likely find her spending time outside with her dog, Hugo, exploring Chicago’s many restaurants, or convincing her partner to go swing dancing.
