Last week, the IEC staff went to Washington, D.C. for a Congressional lobby day with the League of Conservation Voters (LCV). This trip marked a positive beginning to our exciting new partnership with LCV, and an opportunity for IEC to meet with members of Illinois’s federal delegation regarding both the federal and state priorities of our affiliates.
Our team met with Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, Congressman Mike Quigley, Congressman Rodney Davis, and Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi. We also had the opportunity to meet with staff from the offices of Senators Durbin and Duckworth, and Congresswomen Robin Kelly and Cheri Bustos.
In these meetings we highlighted the Future Energy Jobs Act, and our role in leading the nation in a comprehensive and equitable clean energy legislation. We also shared the recent goals of the Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition towards 100% clean energy. We also briefed congressional representatives on the importance of swift and effective action on the threat of Asian carp, and securing funding for the Brandon Road project. We also discussed conservation practices in the Farm Bill, Land Water and Conservation Fund authorization, the Volkswagen Settlement, and Reclaim Act.
